A penny for your thought...Valentine's edition.

Hey guys,
I thought I would start a section called 'A penny for your thought' and basically what this will consist of is ramblings which I've thought up and wanted to share maybe to get more depth or just to share a few thoughts... So here's the Valentine's day edition.

First I guess I should start with my opinion on Valentine's Day...
Now I'm not a bitter lonely person....Well maybe  I am- but not in relation to this but anyway, I don't mind the fact I've spend most of life on February 14th alone in the respect of not in a relationship. Personally I think it's great that I don't have to buy cards or gifts on the occasion as is it really a day worth celebrating? For me I don't think so, my opinion on Valentine's Day is sort of the same as St Patrick's day, I don't really understand the celebration reason if I'm honest.

So I did some research and I found out that this is an early Christian celebrating named after a Christian, Valentinus. The idea behind his story is he was jailed for marrying soldiers whom were forbidden to be married, the legend says that while he was imprisoned he frequently wrote letters to the daughter of the man who imprisoned him, he had healed her somehow? So before his execution he wrote her a letter and signed it 'Your Valentine'. So blah blah legend lives on and we express our love for our 'Valentine' in the respect that the love between a couple heals.

Essentially I'm not a Christian, I mean I don't celebrate Christmas for the Christian aspect or Easter for that matter. I don't like to read in to the legends although they may be interesting stories.

So my issue with Valentines in our society is that Valentine's Day is used for belittlement whether that's to laugh at the expense of a single person spending the day alone or to laugh at couples who are all in love on the day. There's the two sides and neither are accepted on a day of love.

However, my penny for thought today while at work is that maybe Valentine's Day isn't really about couples or relationships as the legend implies and maybe it's more just showing your love. I don't mean in the idea of family or friends or even partners, although don't exclude them. I think more that showing your love can be in a joke with a stranger, they say laughter is the best medicine, generally being a kind and thoughtful person not only to loved ones but also to those who you may see often but don't know, those that you've never seen at all.
As I was at work I shared many laughs with strangers in the form of customers and the amount that I made laugh and also made me laugh on this day couldn't dampen my spirits it felt like such a ''loved- up'' day even though I'm not ''loved up'' in a couple sense.

So that's what I thought today I hope you spend the day feeling loved whether that's by other people or just Netflix.

I'll be posting next week at some point probably with baking posts, planning on making Soda Bread as a random first.

As always, thanks for reading.
Love Caitlyn xxx
